Between March and September 2016, EVZ supported Memos and the Sarajevo-based Institute for Youth Development KULT to implement the youth encounter "Between Diversity and Division". Twenty three young people from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Germany examined the question in which way Nazi-Germany’s war strategy on the Balkans fuelled the ethno-national division between Croats, Serbs and Muslim Bosniaks. One of the project’s activities was a field trip to the Šumarice Memorial Park in Central Serbia. There, on October 21, 1941 soldiers of the German Wehrmacht killed 2800 men and boys. The massacre is subject of several poems and films. The Memorial Museum features an installation with the victims’ portraits. The day the massacre took place is commemorated annually in Serbia as the Day of Remembrance of the Serb Victims of World War II.
