In Rwanda, the NGO Esperance has developed a special set of football rules in order to empower girls and women: Three girls and boys play together in one team, only the girls are entitled to score and the game is played without referees. Thus, the players themselves are responsible to ensure fair-play and the respect each other. The game is called Football Amahoro – Football for Peace and has been used as a tool to promote social inclusion all across Africa’s Great Lakes Region.
